Marketing is a very diverse role within most businesses. As a result an Interim Marketing Manager will need to have a wide range of skills. In the modern world both Digital Marketing and Direct Marketing are strategically important. Typically an Interim Marketing Manager can be tasked with activities which include:

  • PR and Corporate Communications

There are many more functions that an Interim Marketing Manager could be asked to undertake. So having a broad knowledge base across both Digital Marketing and Direct Marketing is important.

My Validated Relevant Experience

Interim CEO – Charitable Leisure Trust

This role started due to the Covid-19 lockdown starting in March 2020. All leisure providers in the UK were asked to close. Without intervention this leisure trust would not have been in a financial position to reopen.

There was a clear need to communicate with both members and staff. With the aim to ensure that the Charity could continue to trade. As you would expect from a Marketing Manager the following methods were optimised.

  • Direct Marketing and Digital Marketing formed the basis of communication with members. As a result of well worded and timed communications 35% of members continued to pay in full throughout lockdown.
  • Digital Communications were used to communicate with Staff. These regular communications reassured them of the security of their jobs. Staff retention rates were high, as a result there was no skills shortage on reopening.
  • As you would expect from a Marketing Manager, Direct Marketing and Digital Marketing was then used as a joined up strategy. With the result that membership numbers bounced back faster than most within the leisure industry.

Whilst being a wide ranging role, this Marketing Strategy ensured the long term survival of the charity. Creating a robust model which continues through tough Covid trading environments.

Sales and Marketing Manager – Direct Marketing

In a saturated market create a content marketing strategy which engaged potential customers. This role used multi channel communications to communicate knowledge. Monthly blog writing and Digital Marketing used consistently throughout a 6 year period.

Corporate sales trebled in three years and customer churn rate reduced.
